About Mark Maish

Engineer by training. Strategist by trade. Psychologist by curiosity. Storyteller at heart. Father by choice. Patriot by blood.

The Evolution

This blog began more than a decade ago as an unfiltered dispatch from a 19-year-old stumbling through the dark, uncertain and treacherous waters of early adulthood. It was fueled by the folly of youthful indiscretion, a maze of soul-numbing career choices, campus life experienced at full blast, and navigating dating through the lens of an adrenaline junkie.

I lived at full throttle. I tested every boundary, sank into the depths of chaos, survived reckless calls, lost good friends along the way, and lived with a quiet conviction that I wouldn’t see 28.

Life intervened. I ventured into several career paths in search of meaning, explored different cities across the Pacific to discover myself, and had the rare fortune of being mentored by formidable men drawn from corporate boardrooms and gritty business battlegrounds to military circles. I worked on fascinating projects, survived having a gun pointed at my head a few times, saw things few ever will, signed NDAs never to speak of them, and learned hard lessons that left physical and emotional scars.

Eventually, the wild boy grew up.

The man who once played to the gallery realized the gallery doesn’t care. I traded the chase for status, titles, and adrenaline for what actually matters: peace of mind, anonymity, health, true brotherhood, evening walks with the missus, and rolling on the living room floor with my little kids.

Today, I am the uncle who handles hard things. The trusted friend. The problem solver with a head full of white hair.

Off the Clock

When the spreadsheets are closed and the pen is put down, you will find me obsessed with building beautiful homes or playing terrible golf. Using the game purely as an excuse to walk the course, soak in the scenery, and share great conversations with good people.

My deepest desire is to open the doors of my home every August to host children from all kinds of backgrounds for a week of mentorship, hands-on training, and lasting memories. I believe that every child deserves to be equipped with the life skills needed to pursue their wildest dreams without the drag that life uses to snuff out childlike wonder.
